Taking control of you!

Welcome to Choices

Providing Knowledge, Information, Research & Hope...

Cleavage Creek Cellars and its owner, Budge Brown, are dedicated to producing world class wines while fighting breast cancer.  Budge lost his wife, Arlene, to breast cancer in November, 2005.  Arlene’s struggle with breast cancer inspired Budge to build and dedicate Cleavage Creek Cellars to her memory.  In doing so, his passion has been directed towards helping other women to survive and thrive, by learning from Arlene and Budge’s journey and the journey of the ladies of Cleavage Creek. He is focusing his efforts to raise awareness and fund research to find an end to the disease.
Thoughts from Budge:

  • There is more than one type of cancer.  Know the hormone receptor status of your cancer. Find out all the particulars of your diagnosis and pathology reports.
  • Always get a second opinion.  Most doctors welcome this practice.
  • Understand that some types of medicine work on some types of cancer and not on all.  If you are prescribed a certain type of chemotherapy, make sure it’s for your type of cancer.
  • Combine breast self-exams with annual mammograms. (See notes on new technology in our “Taking Control of You” and our “Current Research” page for additional information on different types of mammograms.

Breast cancer is a varied and highly complex disease. It is a puzzle made up of millions of pieces. As the researchers continue to examine the pieces of this puzzle, Cleavage Creek Cellars is donating 10 percent of our gross towards research that teaches us how to prevent, treat, and cure breast cancer. This webpage is designed to help you or your loved one in the battle of breast cancer so they too, can become a part of the mounting group of survivors.

Currently, Cleavage Creek Cellars has donated $6,800 to Sutter Breast Care Center in Santa Rosa, California.  The funds will go towards the purchase of an Aurora Breast MRI System.  See more information on the Aurora Breast MRI on our Choices webpage “Taking Control of You.”

According to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) about 178,480 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2007. About 40,460 women will die from the disease. Right now there are about two and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

The continued increase in the incidence of breast cancer is certainly discouraging to patients and physicians alike; however, the significant decline in breast cancer mortality is a source of hope and encouragement. Where we once had many breast cancer victims, we now have many breast cancer survivors; women who joyously celebrate the anniversary of their success.

New sources of treatment are continually being discovered.  The “one size fits all” approach is no longer the norm.  New drugs, information, support groups and more are all available to equip the breast cancer victim and their families to turn them into a breast cancer warrior with the much needed ammunition to fight this battle.

Being in charge of your care is so important.  Budge’s goal is to provide knowledge, information, resources, the latest research, and most of all, hope.  He wants to encourage and empower you to …

Live to Love Life.
